Another discussion list, "teach-ling," aims to promote the "active learning" of language. Educators on the list represent a broad range of instructional contexts -- ESL, EFL, and native language (including English) education at different grade levels. The advantage is that contributors are explicit in their requests and recommendations about the relevant instructional context. You can find reviews, for instance (in the archives) that compare introductory texts for different student populations. To subscribe, send a message to teach-ling-request@qcvaxa.acc.qc.edu with the request "subscribe" in the body of the message.
Discussions of grammar are also archived on the NCTE
website. You can search the site
for references to grammar instruction, or go directly to the beginning of a
thread on this topc from the "talk-kitchen" discussion list: http://www.ncte.org/lists/ncte-talk/aug2000/msg01622.html
A visit to the website for the linguistics
Olympics is richly rewarding in itself, and it provides a set of links to
other language-related websites. All of these sites offer ideas, activities,
and materials for classroom use. (Reference thanks to Herb
